In response to First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) material found in courses made available through ADLC that was identified as inappropriate, a team of FNMI Content Specialists has been formed to review ADLC Courses specifically for references on Residential Schools. The team will identify all Residential School references, analyze them using the Alberta Education: Guiding Voices Evaluation Tool as a filter for appropriateness, and work with ADLC teachers to revise course material as required.
The review began September 24, 2018, and revisions of Residential School references are expected to be completed by December 14, 2018. Required revisions will be applied as soon as possible, with all changes being in full effect by February 1, 2019.
Purpose of Course Review
Assess the course on the basis of Required Learning Outcomes.
Assess the course on the basis of the Alberta Education Guiding Voices Evaluation Tool.
Provide useful and meaningful FNMI information for the teacher of ADLC courses.
Determine what evidence reflects that student learning has been achieved in a thoughtful and appropriate way.
We always encourage our partners to let us know about any ADLC content that may be confusing, questionable, or objectionable. Please feel free to report that back to us as you feel necessary.
